High Costs and Few Discoveries in Barents Sea

BARENTS OBSERVER – Oil companies have spent 5 billion EUR on exploration drillings in the Barents Sea since the area was opened. However, the only gas or oil fields of economic interest which are found are the Snøhvit and Goliat fields. An oil or gas field must be of a certain size in order to be economically interesting for production, since the development of a new field is very expensive.
