Govt Prints 1st Relief Maps of N. Japanese Territories Since 1922

The Geospatial Information Authority of Japan has created a set of 13 topographic maps of the northern territories, the first time such maps have been produced in 88 years. The authority, which created the maps using satellite pictures, started selling them this month. As the islands have been illegally occupied by Russia since the end of World War II, it has been impossible to conduct field surveys, so the areas have been left blank on topographic maps.
