Inundation of Ukutia Displayed in Satellite Imagery

A high resolution image of the inundation area of the 1st Neryuktyainsk village of Olekminsky Region of Yakutia was received. The EROS B satellite image (resolution 0.7 m) was received on May 14 using UniScan ground stations network of ScanEx Research & Development Center. The data was promptly submitted to the Russian EMERCOM.

According to the Yakutia EMERCOM Headquarters the ice drift upper edge can be seen near the 1st Neryuktyainsk village on the Lena River as of May 14, with the ice drift length reaching 694 km. The water level near the village rises up to 1369 cm at the critical level of 1150 cm. 120 houses are still waterlogged.

Monitoring of spring floods progress on Russian rivers is being carried out by ScanEx RDC specialists using near real-time satellite data. Application of data acquired from space enables to assess the scale of the situation, to get real-time forecast of the inundation areas, to assess damage incurred and to detect areas, threatened by floods.

Satellite-based monitoring  of the floods origin on Russian rivers, in particular on the Lena River in Olekminsk Region of Yakutia, will be carried on.
