A Third of Finns Work Outside Their Home Municipality

Finns commute. Statistics show that a third of the Finns that are in regular employment go to work outside of their municipality of residence. The commuter traffic, which often takes place by train, is primarily directed towards larger cities and central communities.
According to information compiled by Statistics Finland, of the larger cities in the country, the southern city of Vantaa (pop. c. 200,000) has the largest share of workers coming from other municipalities. Of those employed within the confines of the city of Vantaa, nearly 57 per cent live elsewhere.
