Espoo Metro Tunnel is Already One Kilometre Long

Construction work on Länsimetro, the western extension of the Helsinki Metro system, started with the excavation work of the tunnels in Ruoholahti in November 2009. Today the western metro tunnel is already one kilometre long. According to the plan, excavation is to continue towards the Salmisaari shoreline, which is expected to be reached after year’s end. Tunnelling work has also been started at other locations along the projected route. The excavations for the metro extension are to be completed in 2013.
