A damning report published today by the country’s public spending watchdog has uncovered an alarming decline in the nation’s roads over the past six years. Councils and national roads agency Transport Scotland have been blamed for failing to carry out essential repairs when the economy was in a healthy state, and report publisher Audit Scotland has warned future generations are now facing a £2.25 billion maintenance backlog.
