Russia Launches LightSquared Satellite

GLOBAL TELCOM – The satellite, built by Boeing, has a 22-metre diameter reflector that is designed to allow LightSquared to provide mobile broadband service in rural areas of the US. It will be joined by SkyTerra 2 at a later date. LightSquared plans to set up a wholesale-only mobile broadband network, using conventional towers in populated areas and the satellites in rural areas, with the aim of providing universal LTE coverage across the US.
