Position Announcement for REDD+ Monitoring Reporting and Verification (MRV) Specialists

Effective with the release of this announcement, Winrock International is seeking applications from highly qualified professionals for REDD+ Monitoring Reporting and Verification (MRV) Specialists for upcoming projects on building institutional and technical capacity to support the sustainable implementation of REDD+. Position is contingent upon receipt of donor funding.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

§  Provide technical leadership to develop country-wide, multi-level, nested MRV systems for REDD+

§  Supervise all technical activities related to MRV, from design to implementation,  monitoring and evaluation, and timely preparation and submission of reports and other deliverables;

§  Participate in regular field visits to project areas to assure project progress towards activity objectives and goals.

§  Assess under field conditions, the feasibility, scalability and cost-effectiveness of MRV methods

§  Ensure the inclusion of women and marginalized groups.

§  Develop and deploy scientific tools and methods for improved ecosystem management and carbon sequestration, forest carbon inventory and reference baselines

QUALIFICATIONS AND BACKGROUND:

Education:                   Advanced degree in forestry, environmental science, natural resource management, conservation, natural science, agriculture, geospatial analysis, climate change related fields or other relevant international development field

Work Experience:       Minimum five years experience working in forestry, especially with regard to deforestation and forest degradation data collection/monitoring, forest carbon assessment, land use and land use change monitoring, UNFCCC and other MRV standards and guidelines; Proven experience in integrating MRV methodologies into policy planning and capacity building; Experience working to build institutional capacity of government counterparts at the national and/or local level.

Skills:                             Technical understanding of international carbon markets; Ability to build coalitions and networks that can provide synergies and sustainable solutions to forest management issues; Must be comfortable in high-level representational role as well as interacting with beneficiaries.

Other:                            Fluency in English is required. Fluency in additional languages is preferred.
