  • Rating12345

GISproject LLC in alliance with OpenGeo will substantially improve customer service for Russian geospatial software users. GISproject will host training programs and has applied for approval to provide first line support for the OpenGeo Suite. Local support includes: installation, localization and configuration of the OpenGeo Suite. OpenGeo will continue to offer complete technical support for OpenGeo Suite’s worldwide user base, including making modifications and enhancements to the core of the suite.

The collaborating organizations anticipate widespread adoption of the OpenGeo Suite. Recent Russian political declarations have placed pressure on federal executive bodies and state institutions to transition their systems to modern technologies. In response, Russian GIS users have turned to open source solutions. Upon signing the agreement, Chris Holmes, OpenGeo president said, “Having a local partner in Russia is a critical step forward to reaching our goal of providing global access to open-source geospatial software.”

The push to modernize systems along with the receptive legal environment has created a market conducive to open source adoption; many are forecasting significant growth for the industry. Nina Lebedeva, the head of GISProject added “I’m convinced that the future of Russian geoinformatics is tightly connected with open source technologies. The GISproject staff shares this enthusiasm. We believe that the agreement with OpenGeo will take Russian GIS development to the next level.” Read More
