Mass transportation performs important economic, social, and environmental functions in cities, ranging from providing basic mobility services in urban areas, towns, developing cities, securing the viability of dense business districts, to meeting all the transportation requirements for those unable to use automobiles, to reducing the negative impacts of traffic congestion.
