200 years ago – on 13 February 1810 – introduced the “level-Instruction in Prussia. This date marks the beginning of the systematic quantitative hydrology in Germany. The condition for a targeted use of the waters of the state and its management was created. 200 years of Hydrology in Germany: this anniversary, the Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Affairs on the occasion, the importance of hydrology for the general interest of society to appreciate – including the associated support services from government, associations and academia. It was directed to an international symposium entitled “Panta Rhei – Hydrology for a Changing World”, which the Federal Press Office on 2 / 3 November 2010 was held in Berlin. Participants were experts from home and abroad, guests from the fields of hydrology and water management and representatives of federal and state governments.
A comprehensive trade exhibition complemented the symposium. On display were historical exhibits and poster presentations from the Hydrometrie hydrological measures in government and associations.
Accompanying the symposium, the Federal Institute of Hydrology, on behalf of Affairs published a book and can produce a short film.
The book “Water – the basis of life – Hydrology for a Changing World” is now available in bookstores. It traces the two hundred year history of hydrology in Germany. Clearly and using many images and graphics, the book shows the way from reading the hydrology of the water levels up to a comprehensive “science of water,” applied by today complex computational method to simulate the flow behavior of entire river systems.
The short film “River Cruise with Children” follows a family on their boat trip on German inland waters. While driving a flock many impressions on the family, each processed in its own way. In the end, is the recognition “of water – the foundation of life.”e
