Come Election Day, many Illinois voters may find themselves in unfamiliar territory, in a state legislative or congressional district with boundaries far different from they belonged to in the last election. In a nutshell, that’s because of redistricting — a once-a-decade exercise in which boundaries are supposed to be redrawn based on population shifts.
