UN To Establish Committee on Global Geospatial Information

The United Nations Economic and Social Council has voted to establish a committee of experts on global geospatial information management to better coordinate international dialogues on spatial data infrastructures and enhance international cooperation on the said matter between member states. According to the latest report from the office of the Secretary-General, at present, there is an absence of a global multilateral or intergovernmental entity that would assume the leadership role in setting the agenda for the development of global geospatial information and promote its use to address key development challenges faced by many developing nations.
