The Climate and Vulnerability Commission recommended in their report (SOU 2007:60) that Lantmäteriet should be commissioned to produce a New National Elevation Model (In Swedish: Ny Nationell Höjdmodell) with high accuracy. (Standard error should be better than 0,5 m for grid points in a 2 metre grid). During 2008, Lantmäteriet prepared a production plan for the new DEM in accordance with the recommendation. The Government has granted financial funds for the period of 2009-2011 for activities connected to climate change, which includes production of elevation data.
