State Starts Web-base Disaster Response System

Speaking at the commemoration of the World Humanitarian Day, Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) national coordinator Dominiciano Mulenga said the Web-Based Spatial data Infrastructure system which was developed with support from the UN system in Zambia will improve greatly the ability of Government and communities to reduce the negative impact of disaster related to climate change. Mr Mulenga also revealed that Government with the support of the UN system is also in the process of establishing a Geographic Information System (GIS) hazard risk map on natural and human induced disasters as well as sentinel sites which will have the capacity to provide data on food security, nutrition, health, water and sanitation.
