SANTIAGO TIMES – Matthias Jakob and Lukas Arenson know a few things about rock glaciers. Both have spent significant time studying permafrost (permanently frozen ground) and rock glaciers in the Chilean Andes and around the world. They are encouraged by the recent funding made available by Chile’s government for study of glaciers (ST Feb 04), because of the importance classical glaciers (made of ice) have for freshwater resources in an era of global climate change.
