North Carolina Green Lights Mega Offshore Wind Farm

  • Rating12345

A proposed 300-megawatts offshore wind power project that would be located in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of North Carolina received an initial blessing from state regulators to move forward yesterday. The North Carolina Utilities Commission’s approval of the Desert Wind Energy Project, which plans to install an estimated 150 wind turbines in the Atlantic Ocean, will allow the project to begin the likely arduous process of securing permits from local, state and federal regualtors. The $600 million wind farm would be among the largest in the United States if it is completed on schedule next year.
