THE HERALD – An ambitious strategy to increase the value of the vital Shetland seafood industry, which is the social and economic cornerstone of Scotland’s most northerly island grouping, was announced yesterday. The industry supports almost a quarter of all jobs throughout the islands, and collectively seafood businesses in Shetland have an estimated output of around £200m per year which accounts for 65% of the islands’ exports, and 86% if oil-related exports are excluded.
