Icebergs in Vilkitsky Strait

Within the frames of the ice situation monitoring project in the seas of the Russian Arctic conducted by ScanEx RDC in behalf of the FSUE “Atomflot” a high resolution optical image of the Vilkitsky Strait was acquired on October 6, 2011 – the narrowest portion of the Northern Sea Route with heaviest traffic between the Taimyr Peninsular and the Severnaya Zemlya archipelago. A long shadow from one of the icebergs can be clearly seen on the image, as well as the heterogeneous pattern of the sea surface.
