Govt Slams Hurdles in Projects

THE HIMALAYAN TIMES – The government has taken strong exception to the UCPN-Maoist’s recent announcement to halt work on 14 hydropower projects that have foreign investment. Minister for Energy Prakash Sharan Mahat, speaking at a press meet at his office, said the Maoist obstruction was ‘politically-motivated’. Maintaining that all contracts and agreements of the 14 power projects were in line with the existing laws and directives of the Parliamentary Committee on Natural Resources and Means, Minister Mahat said the Legislature-Parliament’s approval is not required for these projects.
