EU – I have often said that energy is the lifeblood of a modern society. We need a reliable source of electricity to fuel development. However, today 1.6 billion people worldwide have no access to electricity, most of them in sub-Saharan Africa and Southern Asia and that, with business as usual, the number of people without access to electricity in 2030 could still be at 1.4 billion, with two thirds of these in sub-Saharan Africa.
