Express Train Allegro’s Popularity Exceeds All Expectations

The high-speed express train Allegro that has been operating between Helsinki and St. Petersburg since December is attracting a lot of passengers. In February-March, the number of people travelling on the route was 40 per cent higher than that in the corresponding period last year, and in April, passenger numbers on the line have continued to be high. At the outset, the Finnish Railways (VR) predicted that a total of 250,000 people would travel on the line in the current year. ”At present, it is likely that the high demand could increase the number to some 290,000 passengers”, says Antti Jaatinen, the director of passenger services at VR.
