Collaborative Effort To Research, Conserve Chile’s Pacific Islands

The National Geographic Society, the ocean advocacy non-profit organization Oceana, and the Chile’s Navy began a scientific expedition on Sunday to research the marine ecosystems surrounding Chile’s Salas Island, Gomez Island and Easter Island. This collaboration will focus on the establishment of an ecological baseline to monitor the new Motu Motiro Hiva Marine Park created by President Sebastián Piñera last October. The park is over 150,000 square kilometers, or about the size of Greece. Read More
