Oct. 29 Update: USGS Revises Coastal Change Forecasts

On Oct. 29, 2012, USGS revised its forecasts for coastal change due to Hurricane Sandy. Now, the forecasts are as follows:

Delmarva Peninsula: 91 percent of the beaches are expected to experience erosion; 55 percent of the beaches are expected to experience overwash, and 22 percent are expected to experience inundation.

Coastal New Jersey: 98 percent of the beaches are expected to experience erosion; 54 percent of the beaches are expected to experience overwash, and 9 percent are expected to experience inundation.

South Coast of Long Island: 93 percent of the beaches are expected to experience erosion; 12 percent of the beaches are expected to experience overwash, and 4 percent are expected to experience inundation.
