Robots could soon be capable of real-time autonomous navigation by creating and continuously updating an internal three-dimensional map. Indeed, researchers at MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) have designed such a system based on advanced algorithms and a low-cost interactive camera like the one found in Microsoft’s Kinect.
