On the Map Author Discusses the Book’s Reception

You write a book and you think you’re done. But it’s only the beginning. When On the Map appeared in hardback last year I embarked on the traditional round of book festivals and pre-Christmas signings, almost all of them highly enjoyable. It’s always (okay, almost always) a pleasure meeting readers. But the problem with meeting your readers, particularly those who know rather a lot about maps, is that you end up wishing you’d met them before publication rather than after. A few had spotted mistakes, hastily corrected in future editions and for the new paperback (out this month!), but many more had intriguing personal stories involving their map collections or peculiar cartographic experiences.
