Low Emission Zones – 2011 Reforms

More cities will institute a low emission zone in 2011. Starting 1 January in Krefeld, and as of 1 July in the town of  Markgröningen in Baden-Württemberg, vehicles must display either a yellow or green sticker. The green sticker will become obligatory in Leipzig on 1 March. The new year also marks a tightening of access to the low emission zone in many cities: Augsburg, Düsseldorf, Osnabrück and Wuppertal now no longer permit vehicles with a red sticker. In Bremen the green sticker only is allowable after mid-year. Research done by the Laender has proven that the low emission zones have a positive impact, says UBA President Jochen Flasbarth. Moreover, the number of more ecological vehicles circulating within cities‘ low emission zones has increased. Read More
