Spanish Government Government of the Balearic Islands a Collaboration Agreement for the Implementation of Infrastructure

Development Minister, José Blanco, and President of the Balearic Government, Francesc Antich, today signed in Madrid a collaboration agreement for the implementation of various measures in terms of infrastructure in this region. On the basis of this agreement, in this financial year 2010, the Ministry of Development will help finance various activities to a maximum of 37.5 million euros, distributed as follows:

  • Tren de Mallorca: 23 million euros.
  • Puerto de Ciudadela in Menorca: 14 million euros.
  • Highway drainage in Ibiza: half a million euros.

These amounts include the costs of the expropriations needed, to be managed by the Autonomous Community.

In compliance with the Statute of Autonomy of the Balearic Islands The ninth transitional provision of the Statute of Autonomy of the Balearic Islands states that while the Parliament not to approve the amendment of Law 30/1998 of 29 July, the Special Regime of the Balearic Islands and in any event not term not exceeding seven years, the state’s investment will be established taking into account the average per capita investment made in the Autonomous Communities of the common system. This is determined in accordance with state regulations, standardizing investor actions undertaken in these communities to enable comparability and bearing in mind the circumstances due to their peculiarities and the Balearic Islands exceptional impact on the quantification of public investment.
