OTTAWA SUN – Seven years after Walkerton’s deadly tainted water tragedy, municipal water and sewage systems across Ontario continue to suffer from chronic neglect and disrepair, says an industry report released Wednesday. Leaky water pipes across the province lose $160 million worth of clean, treated drinking water into the ground every year and dozens of municipalities are struggling to pay for $18 billion worth of work needed to fix or upgrade water and wastewater infrastructure, says the report commissioned by the Ontario Sewer and Watermain Construction Association.
