Europe and Australia Enter Talks to Link Carbon Trading Schemes

The world’s newest carbon trading scheme could be linked to its largest carbon market if negotiations between Australia and the EU prove successful. Australia’s top 500 carbon emitters will be forced to pay $23 per tonne from July next year until a full carbon trading system is introduced in 2015 under controversial plans announced by prime minister Julia Gillard.
