The Side Event “Policy lessons from REDD projects and new methodologies” will discuss different approaches and initiatives for REDD + currently submitted to the VCS and how independent certification under a credible standard like the VCS could support policy discussions at the local and sub-national level. Linked to this, we will discuss how design options can ensure the viability of REDD projects initiated by private parties or non-governmental organizations as we scale up to jurisdictional and national level accounting and crediting. The VCS Association will also present its proposed changes to the VCS 2011 standard to improve the methodology approval, the status of approved methodologies and current pipeline, and how the VCS Association can help projects to ensure a pathway forward as countries scale up to jurisdictional and national accounting and crediting.
