Five Countries Sign Key Pipeline Deal At Vilnius Summit

RADIO FREE EUROPE – Five countries signed a deal on October 10 that may provide Europe with an alternative to Russian oil. Poland, Ukraine, Lithuania, Georgia, and Azerbaijan agreed to form a consortium that will deliver Azerbaijani crude to Poland and the Baltic Sea. The agreement, signed by the presidents of the five participating states in the course of the Vilnius energy summit, involves building a $700 million, 500-kilometer extension to an existing pipeline in western Ukraine.
