Expansion of Australian Contaminated Site Legislation

  • Rating12345

The criteria for assessing contaminated land are going to be extended and made more comprehensive from next year. If you own or manage contaminated land, you need to read this article. Site assessments of confirmed and suspected contaminated land in NSW must follow the National Environment Protection Council (New South Wales) Act 1995 (the NEPC Act). This Act is tied to equivalent Acts in each state and territory and the Commonwealth to ensure uniformity of standards across Australia. A recent review recommends broad changes. A draft was released for public comment on 24 September 2010. The submission deadline is 26 November 2010.
