Welsh Government Win AGI Innovation Award

  • Rating12345

Corporate GIS for the Welsh Government has won a prestigious Innovation & Best Practice Award from the Association of Geographic Information. The AGI awards identify and encourage best practice, innovation and maximum use of geographic information. The 2011 award is a result of an investment programme in technology and skills that is now delivering a powerful suite of geospatial tools to support decision making across Welsh Government. Technology from Envitia is used to provide the Welsh Government’s Spatial Data Infrastructure which underpins their Corporate Geographic Information System (GIS). “It is excellent to see the team at the Welsh Government win the innovation award” says Stuart Massey, Account Manager, who attended the awards ceremony. “It is a fantastic achievement and demonstrates the successful implementation of leading edge geospatial technologies. It is exciting to see innovative solutions delivering tangible government cost savings.” Envitia supply the Welsh Government with technology based on open standards to create a set of “plug and play” services. The underlying web services provide a framework to allow the rapid construction of spatial applications both inside and outside the organisation. The Welsh Government has stated that the Corporate GIS has generated significant efficiencies in the first year.
