NASA Shuttle Commander Eileen Collins Available for Insights on the Future of Space Travel~

Virgin Galactic’s first-ever commercial spaceflight is set to launch this month. A part of billionaire Richard Branson‘s Virgin Group, the company announced that it has set a launch window of June 27 to June 30 for its debut operational flight, which it calls Galactic 01.

“Galactic 01, a scientific research mission, will carry three crew members from the Italian Air Force and the National Research Council of Italy to conduct microgravity research. If everything goes as per plan, the second flight will fly in early August with monthly flights thereafter, making space travel and tourism a not-too-distant future.

Retired NASA astronaut and the agency’s first female shuttle commander, Col. Eileen Collins is available to weigh in on the success or failure of Galactic 01 as it highlights the United States government’s ambitions for human exploration and space tourism. Get Eileen’s thoughts on the various aspects of safety, the durability of hardware, and the efficiency that play a crucial role in space travel.

Virgin Galactic isn’t the only company that takes paying customers to suborbital space; Blue Origin, Jeff Bezos’ spaceflight company, does so as well with its New Shepard vehicle. New Shepard hasn’t launched since September 2022, when it suffered an anomaly during an uncrewed research flight.
