The Russian “Kosmosnimki” Global Map of Fires Now in Testing

  • Rating12345

The global map of fires, detected as a result of operational satellite-based monitoring in now being tested in beta-mode on the SFMS service “Kosmosnimki – Fires”. Now the updated information about fire situation in any region of our plant is available. This was made possible due to the integration of the FIRMS information system data (The Fire Information for Resource Management System). Earlier only the fire situation in Russia and some adjacent territories was displayed on the portal, which are within the footprint of the network of UniScan ground stations of ScanEx RDC.

The “Kosmosnimki – Fires” service, developed and promoted by the specialists of ScanEx RDC, now has two layers available with data about fire situation: ScanEx Fires” (covering the territory of RF) and “FIRMS Fires” (global fires). Based on the information of two layers fire cluster are calculated in automatic mode and assessment of areas, covered by fires is performed.

The layer called “Residential areas under threat” is also available now in this service, where names of towns, villages, etc. are displayed, near which thermal spots – probable fire sites – are detected. The layer “statistics of fires through the regions” shown the borders of the RF constituents, within which thermal spots were detected.

— The global service is required to integrate other regional remote fire monitoring centers, such as ScanEx network covering the entire Russian territory, to create more operational and informative services on the territory of other countries as well. For now it is only a project, but in the perspective such an undertaking will allow creating a network of information resources about operational fire and ecological situation, aimed at broad audience, – says the project head Georgy Potapov.
