SuperGIS Desktop Will Further Support MariaDB in the Next Update

  • Rating12345

As there are lots of advantages of using open source resources and its convenience in use, open source resources have recently become all the rage in the technology field. Following this major trend, Supergeo has done much research on open source resources as well as started to think about which open source database to support. MariaDB is the fastest growing open source database now, with more than 12 million users around the world. In addition to open source, one of the most appealing features of MariaDB is its high extensibility! Owing to the modern architecture of MariaDB, it enables users to extend the functionality in every layer, including client, cluster, kernel, and storage. Therefore, users can keep updating database through plugins and incorporate diverse types of storage engines (MariaDB ColumnStore or Facebook’s MyRocks). The flexibility of MariaDB guarantees its potential to meet a wider range of use cases.

Utilization of spatial database is always the key focus of GIS industry. Many enterprises choose to adopt spatial database because it provides a place for data storage and other related information about data (metadata). Users can find useful data through indexing, sorting, computing, and query so that they can obtain the data in a more efficient way. For a data manager, the consistent format of integrated data allows them to share the data with ease. Most of Supergeo’s products already support a wide variety of spatial databases, such as Oracle Spatial, SQLite, PostgreSQL Server (Postgis) in SuperGIS Desktop 10. In the next update, SuperGIS Desktop will further support MariaDB, aiming to closely connect with open source social network as well as to promote Supergeo’s high-quality products to more people!

To normal spatial database users, privacy issues are always of greatest concern. The official website of MariaDB has assured its users that their data are protected with high security level. There are security settings, such as access control, Key Management Services and authentication in every layer to prevent the data from attacks. MariaDB still continues to invest in ameliorating security protection features and stay innovative to broaden its community scope at the same time, which makes MariaDB a trust-worthy open source database. Supergeo will announce more information about supporting MariaDB in the next update. Stay tuned!
