More than 8 million square km of Russia is captured from space, starting from the second half of July as part of the information support of the agricultural sector of the country. Imaging is carried out by ScanEx Research & Development Center.
The first phase of the satellite monitoring to monitor the state of winter crops and after wintering and spring sowing was carried out from March 15 to May 31, 2013. With the help of satellite remote sensing satellites imaging of 16,092,024 square km of Russia was performed, which is the main “agricultural wedge” of the country.
The second stage of monitoring was completed in June 1 – July 15, 2013, with 25,044,902 square km of the territory imaged. The third stage began on July 16 and has already captured 8,420,665 square km.
Imaging is conducted with respect to Krasnodar and Stavropol Territories, Rostov, Voronezh, Volgograd, Lipetsk, Tambov, Belgorod, Smolensk, Kursk, Orel, Kemerovo, Ulyanovsk, Amur, Bryansk, Tula, Nizhny Novgorod, Saratov, Izhevsk, Sverdlovsk, Chelyabinsk, Ryazan, Penza, Orenburg, Samara, Tver and Kaluga regions, as well as in Tatarstan, Bashkortostan and Mordovia, Chuvashia, Buryatia, Khakassia and Udmurtia, and other regions of Russia.
Remote sensing is exercised by the UK-DMC2 satellite with a spatial resolution of 22 meters and a swath width of 600 km. Satellite imagery data on the status of crops during harvest, as well as on abandoned lands are available for operational application. Thematic processing of satellite images is conducted with the analysis of the vegetation index for each field. The materials can be made available to agribusinesses, regional ministries of agriculture, insurers, agrochemical services and other organizations in the form of satellite images or as a remotely accessed Internet-service.
