MAPPS Elects New Officers and Directors

MAPPS, the only national association of private sector geospatial firms, elected new members to its Board of Directors and a slate of officers to serve the association for 2012-2013. Jeff Lower, Vice President of Operations, Magnolia River Services, Inc. (Huntsville, AL) was elected to the position of President-Elect and will succeed to the office of President in 2012. Lower has been an active member of MAPPS through his positions with Magnolia River, 3K3, Inc. and 3001, Inc. (now Northrop Grumman). He is a member on a number of committees and task forces, including membership and legislative affairs.

The membership elected Paul Harwig, PE, SP, President and Managing Director, Fugro Horizons (Rapid City, SD) and Robert “Bob” Hanson, Senior Vice President, Michael Baker Jr., Inc. (Harrisburg, PA) as new directors on the MAPPS Board.

Brian Raber, CMS, GLS, GISP, Merrick & Company (Aurora, CO) and Mr. Lower were re-elected to the Board of Directors pursuant to the MAPPS Bylaws as each were previously elected to fill Board vacancies.

Tim Stagg, Vice President, Federal Programs, AeroMetric Inc. (Easton, MD) was elected Treasurer. Stagg had previously served as Secretary.

Claire Kiedrowski, CP, President, Kappa Mapping Inc. (Bangor, ME) was elected Secretary.

The vote of new directors by the MAPPS membership was held during the association’s annual business meeting July 13 and the Board’s election of officers occurred on July 14, 2012, at the MAPPS 30th Anniversary Summer Conference at The Viceroy in Snowmass, CO.

“It is a pleasure to welcome Paul and Bob to the Board, and Jeff, Tim and Claire as officers,” said Richard “Dick” W. McDonald, PLS, CP, MAPPS President. “We have an outstanding team that will serve the membership and the profession well for the coming year.”

Formed in 1982, MAPPS is the only national association exclusively comprised of private firms in the remote sensing, spatial data and geographic information systems field in the United States. The MAPPS membership spans the entire spectrum of the geospatial community, including Member Firms engaged in satellite and airborne remote sensing, surveying, photogrammetry, aerial photography, LIDAR, hydrography, bathymetry, charting, aerial and satellite image processing, GPS, and GIS data collection and conversion services. MAPPS also includes Associate Member Firms, which are companies that provide hardware, software, products and services to the geospatial profession in the United States and other firms from around the world. Independent Consultant Members are sole proprietors engaged in consulting in or to the geospatial profession, or provides a consulting service of interest to the geospatial profession.

MAPPS provides its 160+ member firms opportunities for networking and developing business-to-business relationships, information sharing, education, public policy advocacy, market growth, and professional development and image enhancement.
