The fashion segment enjoyed a 13.5% share of the EU-28’s total stationary retail turnover in 2017. According to GfK’s recent study on European retail, stationary retail and particularly fashion retail are under pressure from e-commerce, off-price concepts, vertically integrated manufacturers competing for end customers as well as rising rental costs in sought-after locations. Even so, fashion remains the second-strongest segment in terms of brick-and-mortar generated turnover, putting it just behind grocery retail.
GfK’s Map of the Month for May illustrates fashion’s 2017 market share in each country considered by the study.
