Earthscan’s Manual of European Environmental Policy was the recipient of the European Information Association’s 2011 Award for European Information Sources. The Manual, previously published as a loose-leaf printed reference, was re-launched as an online product in 2010. It has been extensively restructured to reflect the changing nature and development of European environmental policy.

Written by an interdisciplinary team of experts from the Institute for European Environmental Policy (IEEP), a leading centre for the analysis and development of environmental and related policies in Europe, the Manual is the most systematic, reliable and comprehensive source of information on EU environmental policy. Speaking at the award ceremony last night Ian Thomson, President of the European Information Association, said “The transformation of the Manual from a loose-leaf to online information service has been a total success, preserving the authority and clarity of the original, while offering major new advances in coverage, functionality and direct hyperlinking to full text sources of EU environmental legislation and case law.”

Andrew Farmer, Acting Director of Research and Head of Industry at IEEP commented that “It is gratifying that the innovative interactive features of the Manual were highlighted in the award. The team has worked hard to give the user the best experience for accessing EU environmental policy information that is possible”.  The judges of the EIA Awards for European Information Sources 2011 felt that the Manual made the transformation to an online medium very successfully and will be of great service to those researchers, stakeholders, NGOs and others who need to follow the development of European environmental policy.

“The adaptation of the Manual was a strongly collaborative joint effort between Earthscan, the IEEP and iFactory. The online format has given us the opportunity to enhance and extend the best content available on European Environmental Policy. It is the perfect tool for a field developing at a very fast pace.” says Veruschka Selbach, Head of Sales and Marketing at Earthscan.  For more information on the Manual or Earthscan please contact the press contact above.
