Keystone Aerial Surveys, Inc. Granted Section 333 Exemption by the FAA

  • Rating12345

Philadelphia, PA, May 13, 2015 — Keystone Aerial Surveys, Inc. is pleased to announce that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has granted Keystone a Section 333 Exemption and an accompanying Certificate of Authorization (COA) for Unmanned Airborne Systems (UAS) operations within the United States.

Keystone was granted the exemption on May 1st, 2015 to operate the Altavian Nova F6500 for mapping and remote sensing applications.   “This is the culmination of months of hard work by Keystone’s UAS team and we are very proud,” said John Schmitt, President of Keystone.   The certificate of exemption can be found at the FAA Section 333 Exemptions granted website, where Keystone currently (as of May 5th, 2015) is one of less than 300 petitioners who have been successfully granted an exemption.

“Keystone determined that the fixed wing Altavian was the best fit for supplying quality products to our existing clients,” noted David Day, Keystone’s Executive Vice President.   Keystone plans to offer services to both its new and existing clients beginning in late summer of 2015.   Currently, only those companies granted a Section 333 Exemption are able to legally perform commercial flights with UAS within the US.   As one of only a handful of aerial data providers with an exemption, Keystone will be leading the way in this emerging industry.   “Be alert for more news and increased offerings from Keystone in 2015 and 2016 as we expand our business using this potentially disruptive technology,” commented Schmitt.
