Hydrographic Features Extraction from LiDAR Points

  • Rating12345

As LiDAR data becomes increasingly accessible, a LiDAR-MapWindow Hydrographic Features Extraction tool has been designed to enhance watershed modeling. It is known that LiDAR can provide up to date information to guide decisions on flood insurance, it requires that terrain data be preprocessed into a regularly spaced grid of elevations (such as a DEM) before any analysis can be performed, which may result in the loss of valuable information. It is a requirement to develop a process that retrieves hydrologic variables and characteristics directly from LiDAR data. In this Poster, a slope based algorithm is proposed for stream finding in the process of hydrological features extraction. The core algorithm will be developed for watershed boundary extraction, stream flow networks and potential flood zones. Read More
