GUF – GNSS Spatial Data Collection for Mapping

  • Rating12345

The Czech Republic is aware of the still growing importance of space technologies for modern society. The number of fields of
human activities which are finding their application in technologies based on navigation, communication or remote sensing
of the Earth is getting larger all the time. The development of space technologies has been laid down by the Czech Republic
in the National Space Plan, however, the Czech Republic wishes to support the development of space technologies also at European level due to their importance.

With respect to large number of applications, the Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) are holding a foremost position
among up-to-date technologies. Nevertheless, their comprehensive and coordinated development asks for the consideration of
the requirements and needs of all the stakeholders. Geodesy was one of the first fields which started to use the GNSS services. Subsequent to the development of geographical information systems (GIS), the GNSS have become one of the main resources of primary data. On the other hand, the degree of uncertainty in positioning represents a basic limiting factor in data collection for mapping, which was the reason why systems capable of providing corrections to GNSS signals were built. In this context, the present challenge consists in the integration of these systems into all-European functional structure and the extension of the number of systems designed for absorbing the relevant corrections.  Read More
