  • Rating12345

The ‘GMES in Action’ conference will be held in Copenhagen, Denmark, on 4–5 June, highlighting the usefulness of Europe’s space programme for the GMES Global Monitoring for Environment and Security initiative to decision-makers and European citizens alike.

User testimonials of pre-operational services, prospects for increased benefits of a fully operational programme and socio-economic assessments will form the core of the conference programme.

High-level speakers from the political environment and institutions as well as representatives from different thematic areas like economy, health, energy, agriculture, climate change and disaster management will state their views, experiences and expectations. Representatives of the political establishment will provide policy and programmatic contributions.

The conference agenda can be found on the conference homepage.

GMES in Action is an associated event of the Danish Presidency of the Council of the EU. It is being organised by the ESA, the European Commission, the European Environment Agency (EEA) and Eumetsat.

About GMES

As a space, in-situ and service component, GMES will provide accurate, timely and easily accessible information to improve the management of the environment, understand and mitigate the effects of climate change and ensure civil security. A huge number of domains will benefit from GMES services once they are operational from 2014 onwards.

GMES features a huge economic potential of jobs, growth and business opportunities for industries and the downstream sector. According to independent studies, GMES will facilitate a return on investment of between €4 and €12 for every €1 invested – an efficient way of spending taxpayers’ money.

GMES is at the crossroads of its future implementation. Currently, various funding mechanisms for GMES are under discussion. Details on the financial future of GMES will also be discussed in Copenhagen.

Registration for the conference is free and can still be done on the conference website. The full programme for the event can be found here.
