GLONASS Antarctic Strategy of Russia

Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin by his decree approved the development strategy of the Russian Federation in the Antarctic until 2020. and a more distant prospect. Reported by the press service of the Russian government. Under the decree, the objectives of the strategy are the realization of national interests of Russia in the Antarctic, in accordance with the norms and principles of international law, the main directions of domestic and foreign policy of Russia, as well as prevention (minimization of impact) of possible threats to national interests in Antarctica. The main instrument for implementing the strategy will be a state program to ensure that state interests of Russia in the Antarctic, the development of which is vested in the Federal Service for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring (Rosgidromet). Also in the development of the state program will participate Rosnedra, MEP, Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Public Health, Ministry of Finance, Rosrybolovstvo, Roskosmos and Sciences. Coordinator appointed to implement the strategy Rosgidromet. As part of the strategy planned to build a new infrastructure of the Russian Antarctic Expedition (RAE) in eight polar stations and field bases. Provision is also conducting work on the development of transport infrastructure on the Antarctic continent and the construction of research vessels.
