FlexiCadastre selected as Uganda’s new Mining Cadastre and Registry System

  • Rating12345

Spatial Dimension is pleased to announce that FlexiCadastre has been selected as Uganda’s new Mining Cadastre and Registry System. The Ugandan Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development, through the Department of Geological Survey and Mines recently signed a contract with MTL Consulting Company Limited of Tanzania to design, develop and commission an advanced rules and web-based Mining Cadastre and Registry system. The project is funded by the Nordic Development Fund and is part of the larger Sustainable Management of Mineral Resources Project.

The new Mining Cadastre and Registry System will improve transparency and security of tenure; increase accessibility of information to private sector investors including small-scale miners; and ensure standardisation and uniformity of mineral licensing procedures. It will allow for the efficient and reliable management of mineral rights for the benefit of all mineral stakeholders, the people and the Government of Uganda.

MTL Consulting, based in Dar es Salaam, provides consultancy services to the mining, environmental and mineral rights market. The project team will be lead by Mr John-Bosco Tindyebwa, a Director of MTL Consulting. Mr Tindyebwa was previously Head of Licensing and Mineral Rights Registry at the Tanzanian Ministry of Energy and Minerals, where he oversaw the implementation of FlexiCadastre within the Ministry back in 2005.

“While this is our first project win since becoming a FlexiCadastre business partner in East Africa, I have worked with FlexiCadastre and the staff at Spatial Dimension for many years. I know that their scalable product will be ideal for the demands of this project. In addition to using FlexiCadastre, MTL Consulting has teamed with Geo-Information Communication (Uganda) and Intierra (Australia) on this important project for the mining sector in Uganda,” said Mr Tindyebwa.

“This recent win is very satisfying for me as it forms part of Spatial Dimension’s vision to work with leading regional companies to implement and support FlexiCadastre in a sustainable manner. MTL is the perfect company to represent FlexiCadastre in East Africa, and I wish them and their partners all of the best with this significant project,” said Mr Bill Feast, Managing Director of Spatial Dimension.
