EUROFLEETS Ship-based Training Course, for Scientists and Technicians, in Multibeam Echo Sounder Technology

A three day ship-based multibeam training course, organized within the EUROFLEETS programme, and with an instructor from Kongsberg Maritime, will be held in Bergen, Norway on board R.V. G.O. Sars. from the 25th to the 27th January 2011. This practical ship-based training course will allow technicians and scientific personnel to acquire the practical skills necessary to operate, collect and refine data from multibeam echo sounders for bottom topography. The course will focus on acoustic theory, principles in multibeam technology, auxiliary instrumentation, software systems, survey design and planning. Practical exercise at sea will be accomplished. Training will cover all instruments involved in bottom topography surveys such as navigation systems, attitude sensors, sound velocity sensors etc. The course, funded through EUROFLEETS, Institute of Marine Research and Kongsberg Maritime, and the accommodation on board of R.V. G.O. Sars. will be free of charge.
