Following the great success of the first ESA App Camp last year, Anwendungszentrum GmbH Oberpfaffenhofen will organise the second round of the app developer lab for the European Space Agency from 3 to 10 June 2013. Based on their previous works, 20 participants will be invited to ESA’s ESRIN location in Frascati (near Rome), Italy with support of the Agency’s Technology Transfer Programme Office. Those selected will have the opportunity spend a week with like-minded people, create mobile applications using satellite data, and gain insight into ESA’s work. Eligible app developers will need to have experience in app development on the Android or iOS platforms that can be verified with links to published apps and other references.

appcamp2012ESA will provide internet access and satellite data for the development of mobile applications in five predefined categories. The goal is to develop mobile apps using Earth monitoring data on smartphones, in particular by leveraging the possibilities offered by the European Earth observation programme GMES (which will be called “Copernicus” in the near future). Experience in integrating this type of data, however, is not necessary to participate in the App Camp. Participants will be able to choose their preferred category and will then be grouped accordingly into teams of four. The winning team – whose members will each receive an iPad 3 – will be selected by a jury of ESA representatives on the final day of the App Camp.

ShareAware – the winning app of the ESA App Camp 2012

The winning app in the first edition of the ESA App Camp, ShareAware, aims to interconnect people concerned about the environment and enable them to understand, learn about, prepare for, and react to various events or remote sensing results.

Those interested can apply to participate in the App Camp at www.app-camp.eu until 25 March 2013.

Further information on the App Camp is also available at www.app-camp.eu.
