Dewberry Announces the Promotion of Dave Maune, Ph.D.

Fairfax, VA—May 17, 2016 — Dewberry, a privately held professional services firm, is proud to announce the promotion of Dave Maune, Ph.D., PSM, PS, GS, CP, CFM, to associate vice president.

Maune is a photogrammetrist with Dewberry’s geospatial group and a recognized authority in the fields of geodesy, photogrammetry, lidar, and IFSAR. Last year, he was appointed to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Hydrographic Services Review Panel to help improve navigation and coastal resilience services and products. This month, he received the Photogrammetry Award from the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ASPRS) for his lifetime contributions to photogrammetry.

Currently, he is working on mapping the state of Alaska, which has never previously been mapped to National Map Accuracy Standards at any scale. IFSAR data was acquired and processed for mapping for more than 400,000 square miles of Alaska; and 2015 GPS surveys, managed by Maune, revealed that Denali, formerly Mount McKinley, has a summit elevation of 20,310 feet rather than the 20,320 feet cited in 1952.

After 30 years of service in the U.S. Army, he manages Dewberry’s major mapping programs for NOAA, the U.S. Geological Survey, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and state, county, city, and private clients. Prior to joining Dewberry in 1992, he served as director of the U.S. Army Topographic Engineering Center, which developed much of the softcopy photogrammetric and GPS technology used throughout the geospatial industry today.

Maune is a fellow member of ASPRS, in recognition of his lifetime achievement in support of the geospatial profession. He served as a member of two National Research Council (NRC) committees studying the accuracy of FEMA flood data, and he is a charter member of the National Geospatial Advisory Committee (NGAC) that advises the Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC). He specializes in all technologies used for digital elevation mapping, and he is the editor and principal author of the first and second editions of “Digital Elevation Model Technologies and Applications: The DEM Users Manual,” published by ASPRS. He authored most of the lidar standards, guidelines, and specifications used in the industry today.
